Venford Reservoir

This 33 acre reservoir has an early Edwardian granite dam and is located on the South Eastern edge of Dartmoor. It is a lovely place to fish within a beautiful moorland landscape.

Venford is essentially a wild brown trout fishery, although there have been occasions when some Rainbows have been stocked. This is a fishery which allows spinning, bait and fly fishing.

Typically the water is peat stained, but in spite of that the small moorland trout can be free rising, especially toward evening when terrestrials are blown from the surrounding trees and moorland. Try black gnats, cul de canard emergers and small river dry flies. Sparsely dressed hares ear and PTN tied with black pheasant tail in small sizes down to 16’s and 18’s will be needed to tempt these little browns. This is an ideal location to take the kids or beginners to enable them to catch a fish or two.
