South West Lakes Trout Fisheries (November 2011) Trout Fishing report for the lakes and reservoirs in Devon, Cornwall, and Somerset. General: The adverse weather conditions during November (heavy rain, strong winds, or foggy) made fishing challenging and not for the faint-hearted at the four rainbow fisheries where the season was extended for bank fishing during the month of November (Kennick, Wimbleball, Siblyback, and Stithians). The fish were generally fairly deep, with darker bigger patterns taking the majority of fish. Season Summary: Rod averages at Kennick and Siblyback showed an improvement on 2010 – Kennick rod average – 3.35 (3.09 in 2010); Siblyback – 3.08 (2.82 in 2010), while the average catch at Wimbleball was down from 4.11 to a still respectable 3.6 fish per rod. The rod average at Stithians was 2.13 fish per rod. The best fish caught at fisheries: Siblyback – 4lb 12oz rainbow caught by R.March (Newquay) using a Black and Peacock Spider in April; Wimbleball -  9lb 2oz rainbow caught by Mr. N. Hamm using a Pheasant Tail Nymph in April; Kennick – 7lb 12oz rainbow caught by Kevin Mildren (from Plymouth) in July using a small Orange Fritz Montana; Stithians – 4lb 2oz rainbow caught by Roger Marrks in April. The Peninsula Classic individual Bank Competition in May was won by Martin Braund (from Exeter); The Team Snowbee Bank Competition in July was won by the Siblyback Raiders from Cornwall (Dave Johns, Tony Chipman, Alex Johnson, and Roger Truscott); The Wimbleball Pairs Open Boat Competition in September still has to be decided between The Siblyback Raiders (Tony Chipman and Roger Truscott) and The Kennick Buzzers (Gavin Argyle and Nigel Perrin). South West Fishing For Life (the Breast Cancer Fishing project) continued to flourish, with regular monthly events at Wimbleball and Kennick, as well as the new Cornish branch for 2011 at Siblyback. 77 beginners were introduced to fly fishing through free beginners’ sessions and days held at Kennick throughout the season in conjunction with the Environment Agency, in addition to begiinners’ and family fly fishing events held at Siblyback and Stithians. Chris Hall (November 2011) This report from Chris Hall, Fisheries Manager for South West Lakes Trust is a roundup of the 2011 season. As he has said the weather for the 2011 season was temperamental to say the least. In my humble opinion it has been so for the last four or five seasons. Hopefully the 2012 season will see a return of dependable temperate weather...  Russ.
