Although that bank is awkward to fish, the old stream bed meanders close in on that side and in the bright conditions of summer, the shade afforded by the trees, combined with the deeper water, often make the effort well worth the struggle.

The wind often funnels through this deep sided valley, bringing all manner of terrestrials from the surrounding fields and woodlands down onto the lake. It can be particularly rewarding to fish small dry flies such as black gnat, mini hoppers and daddies into the soft dusk peculiar to this part of the country.

Floating lines and long fine leaders are used to tempt the fish on small dark nymph and buzzer patterns when the fish can be seen up in the water. Otherwise an intermediate or slow sink line might be necessary to fish the favorite montana or damsel patterns.
