Meldon Dam

Located on the North Western fringe of Dartmoor. Walk the banks at Meldon and you will see evidence of the mining and industrial activities which took place on the moor back into the bronze age.

Meldon contains wild brown trout and some rainbows stocked as fry and the fishing is free to holders of an EA trout licence and is zoned into spinning, bait and fly fishing areas.

Floating lines and long fine leaders will give some fine sport with these small but feisty trout. Work the margins with tiny dark dry flies particularly black gnat or dry black and peacock. If the fish are not showing try subsurface nymphs such as black PTN, anorexic hares ear, black and peacock or buzzers in sizes down to 18’s, preferably tied on barbless hooks so that the fish can be easily shaken off without handling them.
