Fly Fishing and Fisheries Articles. . Fly Tying and Patterns. Fly Fishing Tackle and Workshops. Westcountry articles because that is where I live and fish with occasional forays to the great Midland reservoirs. Chew and Blagdon are central fisheries where I meet and fish with my friends who live further afield. Dave Malpas is a fishing buddy of many years standing who often travels down from Malvern so that we can fish at Blagdon. Especially early Spring, first boat booked for March 17th this year. After a winter of tying Diawl Bach specials I am looking foreword to the off... I tie flies to catch fish, making the flies as simple as possible so that the time spent tying is not consumed by the “one fly each evening” syndrome. Whilst I appreciate the finer nuances of the fly dressers art I think that often flydressing takes on a life of its own. Having been through that phase I am now old enough to appreciate that the fish won’t know the difference between a one hour work of art and a five minute fly tied with reasonable care. None the less I do enjoy the hours at my vice and catching fish on my flies. Good fly fishing tackle can spell the difference between being frustrated and fishless and a well practised “Mr Smoothie” putting his fly on the fishes nose with effortless ease. Good basic tuition and good tackle with a lot of practise will get you there. But sometimes it is the small things that can also make a stunning difference and that is what this section of my website is all about. Contact: russ@reelfoto.com  Made with Xara
